Turkmenistan to supply Russia with 5 bcm of gas this year – TASS

Turkmenistan is set to supply 5 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Russia this year under a contract with Gazprom GAZP.MM, TASS news agency quoted a Turkmen energy official as saying on Friday, on a par with volumes supplied last year.

Last year Russia and Turkmenistan pledged to deepen cooperation in geological exploration and development of gas and oil fields after Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdymukhamedov met in Moscow.

Gazprom resumed purchases of Turkmen gas in the second half of 2019 after suspending them in 2016. In 2021, it bought around 10 bcm from Turkmenistan.

Analysts have said Gazprom might use the gas from Turkmenistan to supply the domestic market in southern Russia.
